Nuttall Family Reunion

Every year we have a family reunion with Will's mom's side of the family, and this is the first year I've done any sort of post about it! Maybe someday I'll dig out pictures from previous years. I think that normally around this time of year I'm just so busy with photoshoots and picture-editing that I never seem to get to all of my snapshots. Sad but true!

Like always, the reunion was at the lake house, and because it happened right around Isabella's birthday, we sang to her with a strawberry cheesecake and also had a Hello Kitty pinata for all the little cousins.

For the second year in a row, bubbles were a huge hit. I'm always amazed at how long the kids are entertained by that.

And Aunt Muriel even dressed up in Great Grandma Nuttall's old work clothes. She passed away before I met Will, but I sure look forward to meeting her in heaven someday. Her kind and loving children are a true testament to what a special lady she was.

As always it was a wonderful day spent with loved ones! We even landed some extraordinary weather for the occasion. Until next year!

Isabella is Seven!

Seven short years ago, the first thing I thought when my sweet Isabella was placed in my arms was, Oh my goodness. She looks just like me! For some reason, I wasn't expecting that. I'm so in love with my delightful girl who is so sensitive and spiritual and passionate and emotional and good to the core. I don't think there ever was such a girly girl in all the land, and I love her!

In most areas of my life, I am a last-minute kind of person, and while we had many adventures planned for her birthday, it wasn't until the night before the big day that I spontaneously decided to hang streamers from her bedroom doorway for when she woke up, as well as deck out the breakfast table extra fancy. There was no fancy meal, mind you, just a box of Trix, but she loved it. And I loved that she picked out Trix for her birthday cereal because Trix makes me nostalgic for my Dad and Grandpa Gordon. There's a long line of Trix-lovers in our family.

After breakfast, we got ready and took Liam and Juliette to Poulsbo where Grandma Rise kindly agreed to watch them while Isabella and I had a girls day together. She chose this instead of a birthday party this year, and I enjoyed it so much, it almost felt like my birthday! First we shopped at the mall and I let her pick out her birthday presents. One of her birthday presents was to get her ears pierced. She was so brave and hardly flinched, although she did say it hurt more than she expected it to. Here she is at Claire's right afterward.

Next we met up with this handsome guy at Red Robin for a birthday lunch.

What goofballs! Isabella ordered pizza even though that was on the menu for her birthday dinner later that night. I couldn't talk her out of it, and so pizza it was!

After Will went back to work, we went to Target and picked up some balloons and things to decorate with for her family birthday dinner that night, and then we went and got our nails done. She chose a teal "paint polish," and the lady who did her nails was so sweet and put "real jewels!" on her thumbs. She loved, loved that.

When we got back to Poulsbo, I fixed her hair fancy and took some pictures of her with a gorgeous bouquet that her friend gave her for her birthday. Such a sweet gesture! (Her friend had been given the bridal bouquet at a wedding she was recently in.)

After a few photos, we came in and decorated!

Before long, family arrived and we had a wonderful meal that Grandma Rise prepared and then opened presents. Juliette is so into birthdays right now and it was fun to watch her dive in on the action, too.

And of course, we sang! And there's only a bunch of blurry photos to prove it. I'm sad that we didn't get a better shot of the cupcakes. One of my young women taught me how to fill and frost them, and they were the prettiest and tastiest cupcakes I've ever had anything to do with.

And so thus it was-- we had a most wonderful and full day for a girl so special to us. Isabella, you are growing up to be so lovely, and I am so proud of you! I love you, sweetheart!
