We'll All Have Tea!

Wow, I've blogged for five straight days in a row... I don't think this has ever happened!

So, today's post is about how Isabella and her friend Olivia decided to recite a poem called, "Polly Put the Kettle On" in our library's annual summer talent show. It was a really simple and short poem about two girls putting on tea.

My favorite thing about this experience was that it was completely Isabella's idea and both of the girls' drive that made it happen. I was secretly hoping we'd be on vacation, so we could eliminate this from our already crazy summer schedule. (I'm horrible.) But this is her second year reciting a poem in the talent show, and I keep hearing her brainstorm about what she is going to do in the talent show next year, so I have a feeling I should just plan on this being an annual thing. And really, I'm glad she likes to do these things. It's a great experience to get up in front of a large group of people and share a talent. And my, they looked awfully cute in their aprons and matching skirts that my friend Jen made.

It was especially fun that so many of our neighborhood friends participated in the talent show with their serious magic trick skills and beautiful singing voices. I love these kids. Every day I'm grateful to live in such a fabulous neighborhood loaded with best kind of people and great friends.

So, without further ado, here are some photos of the girls before we headed over to the library, and then some of them waiting for their turn to perform and also setting up their tea table.  I didn't take many pics during their performance because I was videoing... I'll add that video to this post eventually!

Splashing in the Fountains

We don't just thatch the lawn and clean the car for Family Home Evening activities, we've also had a lot of pure fun on Monday nights this summer. Every year we try to take the foot ferry from Port Orchard across the water to the Bremerton Fountain Park. I love this place! I especially loved this sunny evening because we pretty much had the fountains to ourselves. The kids were braver than they've ever been...running from fountain to fountain dying to get dumped on. It never seemed to get old. Afterward we stopped at Cold Stone and shared a big cup of ice cream. This evening was just perfect and felt like one of the magical family outings where everyone is happy and all is right in the world. Loved it!

And He's Off!

Liam learned how to ride a bike without training wheels this summer! Now he's zipping all over the place on that thing. He learned how to do it one evening while we were cleaning out the car. Having him start out on his smaller bike made all the difference in the world. Our neighbor, Eden, learned how to ride on a small bike like this, and I thought it was a genius idea--much less scary for kids to start out on! It cracks me up how huge he looks on that little thing, though.

Go, Liam!

Family Home Evening Fun

I can't tell you how much I love Family Home Evening every Monday night. For anyone who doesn't know what FHE is, I'll briefly explain. Every Monday evening families in our church have been asked to set aside time to be together as a family... learning together about how to be more Christlike, serving others, working, playing... and eating a yummy treat! You can do it however you like, but basically it's just a time for families to be together, and we love it!

Juliette almost always leads us in an opening song, and I've really been enjoying being able to accompany the singing on my new piano that I got for my birthday earlier this year. Someone gives a prayer, and then Will or I teach a little lesson. Lately for the activity, we've been tackling house/yard projects. Surprisingly enough, the kids have loved this. There's something about working together that makes chores a million times more fun. On this particular evening, we decided to finish up thatching our lawn. Liam was really hard-working and into it, doing a great job with the rake. And the girls really enjoyed gathering up all the dead grass and piling it into the wheelbarrow.

Will decided that after all that hard-work, a water fight was in order. I was a little nervous about how this would go. Would the girls squeal and cry? (I'd be squealing and crying! haha) Would everyone fight over the hose? Well, it turned out to be a huge hit, and I strategically stayed behind my camera to guarantee the water stay clear of me.

It was such a blast to watch! I love these people so much! (Oh, and the girl you probably don't recognize is our next-door neighbor. I love her, too! We're all huge fans of this little one, and love it when she comes over.)
