Oh Happy Day: 4.28.2014

As you may have noticed, my blog is mostly just documentation of special occasions: birthdays, Christmas, and other holidays. But I do take pictures of our everyday life; I just haven't managed to find the time to sift through and post them! In an effort to change that, I'm starting a new little series here on the blog called "Oh Happy Day," which will feature snapshots of our everyday life throughout the year. Since I'm so behind in 2014, I'm going to go through and quickly post them for anyone who'd like a peek, and then I'll archive them so they show up where they fit into this blog chronologically, if that makes sense. Hopefully my "Oh Happy Day" posts for 2015 will get on this blog in real time. Until then, it's fun to go down memory lane.

All I really know about the pictures below is that Charlie is about 6 months here. He's always loved that trampoline, and I have countless pictures of Isabella and him together because they are pretty inseperable. I love the bond they share! And oh, those cheeks! I can't believe how much Charlie has changed over the months! Such a cute baby!

Liam's 6th Birthday: Family Dinner

In addition to friend parties, which the kids get every other year, we also had special family dinners for both Liam and Juliette! It was a lot of partying! I was going to combine their family dinner, but Grandma Rise offered to host Juliette's, and I welcomed the offer seeing how four parties at my house in the span of about a week would have completely wiped me out. Liam requested "bowtie noodles" aka Chicken and Broccoli Alfredo for dinner, something everyone likes and is pretty easy to make. He also requested Grandma Rise's ultra delicious ice cream cake for dessert. I hope all his birthday wishes came true. I can't believe he's six! We sure love you, Liam!

Charlton at Six Months

Oh boy, what a joy our baby Charlie is! At six months old he still loves the water, especially during bath time. He loves to sit on the lawn outside and watch the kids play. He is pretty much sitting up on his own now, although I do like to put pillows around him to soften his occasional crash landings. He has already cut two teeth on the bottom. Whenever he is really happy he shakes his head back and forth as if to say "no," but what he really means is "yes! I love this!" He also really loves it when we hold him out in front of us and swing him from side to side and sing "tick-tock, tick-tock!"It makes him laugh every time.

He loves to go on morning walks with me around the neighborhood. I bundle him up, like he's pictured above and off we go. He loves all of his siblings, and lights up in a different way for each of them. They are all so adorable together. I'm starting to understand how people have large families. Life seriously becomes more and more full with each little one, and you get to watch the older ones express and show love in a way that is so tender and priceless.

The other day before bed, Liam went to say goodnight to Charlton and was gone quite a long time. When I went to check on him, I intended to get after him for taking so long, but I found him talking to Charlie and telling him how much he loved him. And then he said to me, "I just can't stop saying goodnight to Charlie because I love him too much!" I'm a puddle just thinking about it.

Charlie thinks Juliette is hilarious and he probably laughs the most at her, and he and Isabella are two peas in a pod. Isabella loves taking care of him so much and they are pretty inseparable.

We've given Charlton rice cereal and some other store-bought baby foods, but he doesn't seem to be too big a fan. And of course, he loves his Daddy and is already babbling "dadada" all the time.

As for me, I LOVE THIS BABY and I'm pretty sure he thinks the world of me too!

Liam's Dragon Party

One of the perks to being in charge of Mormon Prom was that I had access to tons of Chinese-themed decorations, and so I made sure to use them at Liam and Juliette's birthday parties later that month. It was only natural to zero in on a dragon theme for Liam's party, seeing how I had a giant dragon head hanging out in my garage! Luckily he was easily bought into this idea. His excitement was tangible!

We invited sibling groups from our neighborhood corner, which happens to be mostly girls, and we also invited a handful of his kindergarten buddies. The first thing we did at the party was make dragon masks, which a lot of the kids really got into. Others weren't as interested, but we had quite a range in ages, so I guess that should have been expected. Next Will lined up the kids and got them all pumped up to go on a dragon egg hunt. I wish that I would've filmed Will talking to them; he can be pretty hilarious sometimes (and a big kid at heart himself). This activity was a serious hit, and so easy! I just spray painted a bunch of Easter eggs, filled them with candy, and sent the kids a-hunting. Lastly, we played a little dragon tag before we topped off the party with cupcakes and presents.

It's always a joy to celebrate Liam because he loves every thing! He especially loves getting presents and is not bashful in his excitement. It's a lot of fun to watch. And I must mention how incredibly proud I've been of Liam this year. He is so well-behaved, sincere, hard-working and self-motivated.

I love you dearly, Liam, and I can. not. believe. you. are. SIX! I thank Heavenly Father for you every single day, my good, sweet boy.

We didn't have leprechauns when I was little... sometimes I think the holiday expectations and traditions go a little overboard these days, but I will admit I get a huge kick out of the leprechaun visits we've had over the last few years. They are too funny! The leprechauns always pee green in our toilets, leaving nasty green footprints on the toilet seats. They write funny notes on the pictures. But they're not all naughty; they're also nice enough to always leave a box of Lucky Charms for us to eat at breakfast... a real treat!

This year our leprechauns got extra feisty and left green dots on each of the kid's noses... even on Baby Charlton's cute nose! When I discovered the leprechaun paint on their sweet faces, I immediately took pictures, but when I saw how Juliette's was smothered all over, I got very side- tracked with worry, and failed to get a picture of Isabella's green nose. Oops! I was just really concerned about it getting all over the bedding and things. I also worried about Liam having to go to school with a green nose, seeing how paint doesn't always come off too easily. But I shouldn't have worried because the next morning, Liam wouldn't let me even try to wash it off. He was so excited to show his friends at school and he's been dreaming up traps for next year ever since.

During homeschool that day, I had Isabella write a paragraph about St. Patrick's Day, and I got a kick out of her little summary. By the way, I don't know what she's talking about when she said the moms make the kids clean up all the leprechaun messes. I guarantee I did most, if not all, the cleaning. But I think she's on to something! Next year, the kids have complete clean-up duty! St. Patrick's Day just got even cooler.
