Easter Hunts Never Ever Get Old... Ever

Coming out of two birthdays back to back, I usually have to take a big breath and muster some energy to make Easter "happen." Luckily, I always try to remind myself that as long as we're focusing on Christ, we can put all this fluffy stuff right into perspective, and I gather the perfect dose of energy from that. Plus Will is always there to keep me grounded, too. Good thing I like returning things almost as much as I enjoy buying them. haha I almost get relieved when I bring things home and they don't fit or aren't liked. Yay, for money back in the bank!

I was curious to see if the kids would be as into the egg hunts as they usually are since both Liam and Juliette's birthday parties had egg hunts. Who am I kidding! They knew the details of the "when" and "where" of the church and neighborhood festivities better than I did. They are such a joy to watch, and sure make things fun and worth every effort.

Fluff aside, I must include how immensely grateful I am for this sacred time, and the reminder that we have a Savior who died for us and LIVES for us. What a gift his life and resurrection are to me and my family every single day. To know that we will all live again because of him is just about the happiest thought I can think of.

My Birthday at Thirty-two.

IMG_1483Marie's32ndBday2014 Marie's32ndBday2014-1 IMG_1499Marie's32ndBday2014 IMG_1484Marie's32ndBday2014 Marie's32ndBday2014-2 IMG_1493Marie's32ndBday2014
It's caught me by surprise considering I dreaded the big 3-0, but I'm actually really digging my thirties. Sure, there are quite a few gray hairs and my dark under-eye circles plague me. But it's nothing some hair color and makeup can't take the edge off of. And even if I couldn't hide those things, I would still love this stage of my life because I've never felt so confident in my purpose here on earth or so fulfilled by my relationships. I feel like I'm taking life seriously in the sense that I don't want to waste a minute-- with my kids, especially!

Don't get me wrong... I do waste many minutes, many times a day, but I've never been so conscious of time and it's value.

As for birthday festivities, we just hung out as a family all day. In the morning, I introduced everytone to Nutella/banana crepes. I can't believe I've never made that for them before--major win there! Next we picked out some beautiful wallpaper I've been wanting and then went for a drive checking out some different homes on the market for fun. This has always been a favorite past time of Will and me (even once upon a time when we were dating, we'd do this). We actually were pretty seriously considering trying to buy an investment property back in April, but I honestly have no real desire to move (not that we'd necessarily have to). But anyway, for several different reasons, it's on the back burner again, which I'm more than okay with. We may be outgrowing our house a bit, but we are so, so happy here, so unless it's some ultra amazing house and a deal, there's no tempting me.

We also stopped at a park and played basketball together as a family (minus Juliette who frolicked and designed me a birthday bouquet of wildflowers and Charlton who watched from his carseat). I get a huge thrill out of playing sports with my family... especially soccer and basketball. I dream of having a basketball court or at the very least a hoop on our property someday so that we can play all the time. We usually play girls against boys and the kids are getting good! I think the boys won this time, but it was close. And I noticed an increase in sportsmanship which was a birthday present in and of itself! There have been many a meltdown on the court in the past.

I also played with Charlton and Juliette on the swings, which was really fun... and I love the pictures we got of that.  We got takeout and came home with all my favorite goodies from the grocery store that evening. It was a beautiful, beautiful day and I felt so loved by my sweet crew with their charming gifts and adorable gestures, as well as by friends and family near and far through their loving words, surprise acts of service and awesome and unexpected presents! Thank you all for that! I am so blessed.

Sleep My Child

I feel like all I blog about lately are birthdays and holidays, which is nice and all, but it's the every-day sweet moments that I really live for. One early Saturday morning not too long ago, I watched Charlton awake and peaceful as can be on Will's chest. And as I took pictures, he drifted to sleep. It was the sweetest thing and reminds me of the lullaby Will often sings to our kids:

Sleep my child and peace attend thee,
All through the night
Guardian angels God will send thee,
All through the night;
Soft the drowsy hours are creeping,
Hill and vale in slumber sleeping,
I my loved ones' watch am keeping,
All through the night.
Angels watching, e'er around thee,
All through the night
Midnight slumber close surround thee,
All through the night
Soft the drowsy hours are creeping,
Hill and vale in slumber sleeping
I my loved ones' watch am keeping,
All through the night
While the moon her watch is keeping,
All through the night
While the weary world is sleeping,
All through the night
O'er thy spirit gently stealing,
Visions of delight revealing
Breathes a pure and holy feeling,
All through the night.

April General Conference

I love, love, love that we are able to watch General Conference from the comfort of our home... or more precisely, our bed! It is so wonderful to cozy up with those you love most and listen to amazing and uplifting talks from our prophet, President Thomas S. Monson and other leaders of our church. We had an awesome lesson at church just last Sunday about following the prophet. My friend Kali had us read President Monson's address from April's conference and it was all about LOVE. President Monson teaches about how we cannot truly love God without loving our neighbor, and how we can't truly love our neighbor without loving God. He shares some wonderful stories that illustrate how love is the essence and most important aspect of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Another favorite of mine was President Bednar's talk about burdens, and how the loads we carry in this life, shape us and propel us to our destination. Here is a favorite quote from it:

"Sometimes we mistakenly may believe that happiness is the absence of a load. But bearing a load is a necessary and essential part of the plan of happiness. Because our individual load needs to generate spiritual traction, we should be careful to not haul around in our lives so many nice but unnecessary things that we are distracted and diverted from the things that truly matter most."

I'm more and more convinced that the things in this life that truly matter most are our relationships with people, and especially our families. I love my family so much.

Juliette's 4th Birthday: Family Dinner

Juliette practically fell over with excitement at each gift she received... so happy! I'll be the first one to admit that my kids are spoiled in the present department. I hope they'll always be this excited and grateful for sweet gifts in any size or package. And I feel blessed to be able to celebrate such a fun girl with her gorgeous grin and blondie locks.  Happy Birthday again, my sweet angel girl. You are so loved.
