This definitely went down as a memorable Family Home Evening activity! For our FHE lesson, Will read us some inspiring pioneer stories and then told the kids that for the activity we were going to pretend to go on our own pioneer trek into the woods. Instead of pulling a handcart, we loaded up our toy train wagon with weights and Will had the kids take turns pulling the load. They LOVED this and at one point wanted everyone to get in the wagon so that it would be even heavier to pull. Liam was particularly proud of the fact that he was strong enough to pull pretty much the whole family (I didn't get in) the entire way there and back. It was quite entertaining, even if we did get some weird looks from the neighbors. That almost made it more fun!

We ditched the "handcart" once we reached the woods and enjoyed exploring together. Will and the kids especially adore being in thick wooded areas. We tried finding a good climbing tree, but didn't have too much luck in that department, but there were quite a few fallen trees, and so we did a lot of "log walking" instead. I was especially impressed with Juliette's balance and adventurous personality. She kept up with the big kids so well! My kids also are obsessed with berry picking and scored tons of huckleberries. Yum!

Anyway, I always feel very humbled and amazed when I think about what the pioneers and how they left pretty much everything they owned to cross the plains with their (in many cases) young families. What a feat, to make it to the Salt Lake valley where they could finally worship Heavenly Father in peace. Many buried loved ones--even their children-- along the way because the conditions were so harsh and the physical demands so grueling. But on the flip side, because of their strong faith and willingness, they were able to endure this and witness astonishing miracles along the way...

I admire those pioneers so much, and am eternally grateful that they were willing to do what they did. My family has certainly been blessed because of them!

Primary Color Run

It's hard to believe we've lived in our house for nearly seven years! In those seven years, we've been part of the most amazing ward at church. I've never been in a ward that wasn't amazing, but this is the longest we've been anywhere and I feel like I'm extra attached because of that. My babies are growing up with these people, and they truly are cream-of-the-earth kind of people. For a recent Primary activity, we had a color run and it was so fun! I'm glad I could take some pictures, not just of my cuties, but also of some of the people we love and admire so much. Thank you, dear Primary leaders, for putting on such a fun event!

Our Adorable Kindergarten Grad!

Liam is the most adorable little boy! I could just eat up all the cuteness and sweetness he brings to our lives every single day. Just yesterday at dinner he was telling us that he was full. Someone started teasing him about how he must be too full for dessert, and he said something like, "no, my tummy has two parts. On this side it fills up with healthy foods, but the other half is for dessert and that side IS NOT FULL!" (I'm pretty sure that side is never full.) And today at dinner he was telling us all about how he is "a real live soccer player." You kinda had to be there, but the pride in his voice was quite endearing.

So yes, it was really fun watching him go to kindergarten this last year. He put his whole heart into it and loved his teacher, Mrs. Sullivan, SO much. I don't know anyone who doesn't love that lady to pieces. She is wonderful. She was always telling me what a hard worker Liam is, and that is so true about him. Once this kid sets his mind to something, he's all in, and I love that about him. He'd often stay in from recess to work on writing his numbers and he was very into the "fun run" they held each Friday. In fact, Mrs. Sullivan said something about him being their "star runner" as he ran up to get his certificate at graduation. haha He loves to run and is very motivated to learn and grow and succeed.

What a good boy you are, Liam! I couldn't love you more.
